Virtualization and Stress Testing White Papers for Lync Server 2013 Now Available for Download

Microsoft has released two new white papers for Lync Server 2013

The Lync Server 2013 Virtualization White Paper provides guidance for planning a Lync Server deployment on virtual servers. As a real-time application, Lync Server requires careful planning when deployed on virtual environments. Performance issues caused by shared resource constraints are hardly noticeable in many applications, but in Lync Server they can cause audio and video issues that make for a poor user experience.

This paper provides many configuration recommendations for running Lync Server 2013 in a virtual environment, both for the host servers and the guest servers. It details the 10 most important Key Health Indicators (KHIs) that you should watch both when performing a capacity test prior to deploying, and during deployment. It also explains observations and results from the capacity testing Microsoft performed in a virtualized test environment.

The Lync Server 2013 Stress Test Guide can help you perform and analyze a stress test of a proposed Lync Server 2013 deployment, using the Lync Server 2013 Stress and Performance Tool (LSS).

LSS is a toolset that you can use to perform a stress test of a design that will be deployed on a target deployment infrastructure (server, storage, and network) based on your specific usage pattern. The LSS can simulate all Lync Server workloads or just specific workloads, such as instant messaging (IM) and presence, application sharing, audio conferencing, and mobility, with a particular scale target.

This test plan will take you through the steps required to plan and conduct a Lync Server 2013 stress testing exercise, and it will help you analyze the results in order to conclude whether the initial capacity plan is sound or requires adjustment.
